Early morning background

Early morning and I threw the background in. I was going to do something completely different but really it does not need it. By the way the background is not black it is Michael Harding Indigo, I’m in low with this colour, such a little goes a long long way.

No more can I paint

That’s me done for tonight no more can I tweak the rags. I have enjoyed moments of painting this and get pleasure from the area’s of poetry within it. But I think I now also have to start thinking about painting them on a bigger scale as the lines will hopefully become more fluid with bigger brush strokes.

I’m done for today

That’s it for today, I’m totally knackered I’ve been working on and off with this fine fellow for most of the day. Rocking out with the Tuareg blues and digging the desert vibe.
Just a few more hours and it should be done.

Moving on

Time out Ragman 3 is starting to take shape the colour is looking dirty and more lived in as if he has been dancing in the dirt and grime of a desert.

Ideas

Ideas I’m currently thinking about.

1. To get my artefacts photographed in a studio so that I can create a catalog for a fake museum exhibition.

2. To make a latex mould of one of my artefacts so that I can then make wax candles that can then become part of a performance piece

3. To make a 3D ragman piece

4. To make another tufted totem and to think about making bigger ones.

So really there is a lot on my mind at the moment

A good day

First job for today was cutting back the details on my mask rug. I decided to title the Tribal Tears, due to the lengths of wool hanging from the eyes.
At this point it looks ok for my third tufted piece.
This is where this comes alive, I took away the brown packing tape on the back of this rug. The tape is used to mask the base material when latex is added to the back of the rug to seal it.
What then happened is the rug started to curl and turn itself in to a standing sculptural piece, very much like a totem.
Can I take this idea further ? And would it work on a bigger scale?
Time to get designing.
Next was a visit to the pottery to try out my sample pack of black sculpture clay.
This clay is excellent, it has the right consistency for sculpting I’m really looking forward to working with it some more
