Fragility

It’s rubbish weather outside so what better way to put off work on a painting, today’s project is to make an unstable ladder out of dowel and raffia.
It’s going to be a metaphor for the fragility of existence, how one false move can pull the whole thing apart.
I know what I’m doing and the idea has been haunting me for the last few weeks so I best get it made.

Lost ancestor

This morning’s piece “sad lost ancestor”.
Even though this black sculptural clay is rather messy , it is really pleasing to work with. The grog mix in it is really corse and at times it feels like I am modelling with sand and grit, but the level of detail that can be attained with it is really impressive, added to that it holds its shape really well.

Glaze

Back @moss_studio_store working on another sacrificial glaze piece for this I have done an under wash of Iron and then gone over it with Matt black glaze. Once fired the colours will go richer but I actually like the colours as they are.

Uggggghh

A couple of hours wrestling with this current painting, it’s currently going through the messy stage added to that I have to pull one more colour out of the bag that or leave sections empty and focus on the ones I have already painted in.
Added to all this I seem to have a sort of cold that is making me feel pretty zapped of all energy.

Tuft away

Phut phut brrr more done on this. I feel like a contortionist working on this piece as I’m rolling around the floor trying to find the right angle for the tufting gun.
This may be the last piece in this vane as I feel like I have learnt a lot and my skill is getting better.
I feel I want to go further down the sculptural multi media approach with the next pieces.

Working through my ideas

Just deciding if this works, (please excuse all the other stuff in the photo)
I’ve had my eye on this cut back Christmas tree for weeks and I was finally given permission to take it. I think it all works quite well and looks a lot more organic than the piece of dowel.
